The Tutorial
(Note: This
tutorial assumes you are familiar with the basic ideas of adult
site creation. If unsure, please check the Absolute
Beginners site for tips and information.
It also assumes you're making free sites to begin with...)
Step 1 – Understand
your market
In
2001 women overtook men as the primary users of the internet.
*
This
means a vast market exists for porn for women. Don’t believe the
often-repeated truism that women don’t like porn (click
here to read some interesting info on this subject). The fact
is, many women do want porn, and they’re increasingly ready to
pay for it. The important thing to remember is that women often
don’t want the same thing that men want, and this translates into
a myriad of differences, which will be discussed shortly.
It’s
important to work to the idea that “women are more than visual”.
That is, they require a little more than just pictures to rev
them up. 4Women webmasters generally agree that it helps to stimulate
the female surfers’ imagination and intelligence, as well as her
groin. What this translates to in concrete terms is including
more text in your site – whether that be additional erotic fiction,
short articles, or wordy advertisements.
Over
the last couple of years it has been stated that women enjoy the
internet because of the sense of community it provides. This truism
has been used as a basis for website creation for women, resulting
in more surveys, chat rooms and bulletin boards on 4women sites.
Recently a debate has occurred as to whether this idea is necessarily
right. Some suggest women are simply after plain porn without
the add-ons. Nothing has been resolved yet, but keep in mind that
“community” is still what motivates non-porn producers of women’s
websites, and it’s what your female surfers are used to.
Step
2: Look at what others are doing
To
get a feel for how women’s websites look and “feel”, visit a linklist
such as Ms Naughty
and get an idea of what is out there. You’ll
find that women’s sites are offering more than just pictures of
naked men (another ongoing misconception about the 4women niche;
more about this later!). Women are also attracted to sites featuring
couples, and erotic fiction also looms large. You’ll even find
sites that aren’t necessarily “porn”; they fall into the realm
of “erotica” and may feature articles, artistic nude photography
and poetry.
You’ll
notice a general lack of hardcore. This is due to a loose agreement
between webmistresses that free sites should remain relatively
softcore. Not all 4women site creators are adhering to this idea,
but we hope to keep this niche relatively “clean” in the face
of increasing censorship and declining profit margins due to too
much free porn.
We
also hold the firm belief that less hardcore equals more signups.
I myself can vouch for this theory. When I first began to create
sites I had hardcore couples pics scattered everywhere, with few
signups. I realised I was making my surfers too happy, so I toned
things down and experienced a subsequent increase in sales.
4Women
site creators are still debating the meaning of “hardcore” when
it comes to porn for women. Ideally it should mean penetration
shots, explicit oral sex pics and “pink” (exposed female genitals).
What we haven’t completely agreed on is whether the erect penis
constitutes hardcore. Ideally, a soft cock should also equal more
signups, however a problem (ahem) arises :) due to the fact that
there is minimal content featuring flaccid penises. Women may
seek out internet porn to see the erections that cannot get elsewhere,
so a hard cock can be a drawcard. Whether the said cock is enough
to stimulate a female surfer orgasm is debatable.
