Step 3: What Do
Women Want - Specifically
When it comes to
porn itself, women's needs and wants can be very different to
mainstream, "normal" content. To break it down into
specific elements...
The Dick.
It may be stating the obvious, but women love looking at dicks.
The penis has been hidden away for too long, and female surfers
are keen to see some unadulterated cock. Curiosity, as well as
sexual urges, plays a part here.
Storylines.
It’s far more satisfying to see a sexual encounter played out
from the beginning than to simply leap straight into penetration.
With naked men this may mean a slow removal of clothes. With couples
pics, this means foreplay, kissing and afterglow (although you
will search a long time to find pics that feature the latter)
RKF
– Romance, Kissing, Foreplay. If you have pics that feature these
elements, they are perfect for women.
Personality
and context. It’s not enough to simply show sex or naked
men. The female surfer wants to know who it is they’re looking
at, and why they’re doing what they’re doing. They want to see
enjoyment, and some kind of connection between the people on screen.
Women don’t want to just have sex with a penis. They want to have
sex with a man.
A focus on
women’s pleasure. That means plenty of cunnilingus, acknowledgement
of the existence of the clitoris, and attention to non-genital
erogenous zones. This also means setting the tone of the site,
to say that women come first, and a woman’s desires and needs
are paramount. An example of this is a reversal of the mainstream
porn power play, where men are portrayed as being at the sexual
disposal of women (yes, that’s a little sexist, but we’re in the
realm of fantasy here).
Exploration
of women’s fantasies, whether that be the perennial Fireman
fantasy, or some more extravagant idea.
Nice facial
expressions. Ideally, this means both partners look as
though they’re enjoying every minute of it. This usually means
closed eyes and ecstatic looks. It does not mean staring straight
at the camera.
Respect for women.
Female surfers seek out 4women sites because they find the tone
of many mainstream sites to be insulting towards women. A site
that is disrespectful towards women treats them as “holes”, doesn’t
care about their pleasure, and portrays women as stupid whores
that need a good hard, forceful fucking. Also, anything that tricks
women into sex, and laughs at them afterwards. Ideally a 4women
site should avoid this.
Reality.
Whether it’s checking out amateur pics that average guys have
sent in, or thinking that what’s happening in the picture could
really happen in every day life, it often helps if your pics have
an element of reality to them. If it’s not a fantasy sequence,
then you need to keep your content “normal”. What do I mean by
that? Well, lets say you should avoid content featuring the big-haired
bottle blonde in 6 inch heels and fake tits, who drives a red
sports car and wants to fuck all the time. Women will be too busy
saying “my God, she looks so 80’s” to bother with feeling
turned on. You need to pick content that will reflect the surfer
back at themselves; that lets them imagine themselves in the picture.
What women
don’t want
(and I may come in for flak here. Send all complaints to
grandmascrotum@yahoo.com.au)
Facial
cumshots
All
blowjobs and no reciprocal cunnilingus
Painful-looking
anal sex
Women
looking as though they’re not enjoying the experience– pained
or bored expressions aren’t good, and neither are blank stares.
Camera-eye
contact by women in photos. This ruins the fantasy that the surfer
is the woman in the photo.
Fake
breasts, big hair, too much make up
Pics
that show the man in charge and receiving all the pleasure (BDSM
sites are the exception)
Language
that objectifies people – male or female.
“Gay
shots”. A “gay shot” may be a little hard to define, and may depend
on the eye of the beholder. See below.
Something to remember:
Just because women like the idea of romance and don't want to
see facials doesn't mean they don't love the idea of hardcore
porn. They're keen to see penetration as much as any man, and
the promise of hardcore contributes to paysite sales. Nonetheless,
it's important to keep in mind the idea that context is vital.
A set of photos showing foreplay and leading into a couple of
hardcore pics beats 200 penetration shots on their own.
* NOTE - Added 2005. In the last few years I've been revising
my idea of "what women want", mainly because I keep
hearing complaints that the above list is "stereotypical".
I hereby declare that this page only offers guidelines, and in
essence caters to a NICHE of women's porn. There are other chicks
out there who are getting off on MMF bisexual, gapes and God knows
what else. Far be it for me to say that their tastes are wrong.
It's my opinion that "women's porn" is best defined
by two things:
1. It puts female pleasure first
2. It caters to the female perspective and assumes that the audience
is female.
Please see the page The Essence
of Good Erotica for Women for more detail.
Of course, the hetero women's porn I mainly produce still follows
the above guidelines, and I think if you do follow these rules,
you'll have a decent women's site. You'll also have a decent PORN
site that a lot of men may like as well :)
